The drawings of distinguished American artist Lee Bontecou (b. 1931) have been an essential component of her creative output since the beginning of her career of more than 50 years. A distinct medium for the artist, drawing serves as a crucial complement to her renowned work in sculpture as well as an avenue of independent artistic expression. Until now, however, no museum exhibition has been devoted to Bontecou’s drawings.
Presenting approximately 60 works on paper, Lee Bontecou: Drawn Worlds spans the artist’s drawing practice from its inception in the late 1950s to 2012 and provides an entirely new perspective on Bontecou as an artist. The exhibition, which premiered at the Menil Collection on Jan. 31 and continues through May 11, will be on view at the Princeton University Art Museum from May 24 through Oct. 5, 2014. See all
